Golden – Jason Hurlbert, 30, of Westminster was sentenced Friday in Jefferson County District Court to 12 years in prison and five years of mandatory parole for the May 2004 death of his 2- month-old son, Jacob.
Hurlbert, who pleaded guilty June 13 to child abuse resulting in death, was arrested after Lutheran Medical Center officials notified police April 24, 2004, that Jacob had been admitted with a skull fracture and bleeding in the brain. He was taken off life support 10 days later and died.
Hurlbert admitted in court that he was under a lot of financial stress and that he shook Jacob three or four times, hitting the baby’s head on the coffee table to get him to stop making noises.
