It’s time to get trashed.
The 13th-annual Trashmasters golf tourney comes down in Snowmass on Friday. It’s Realtor Boone Schweitzer’s charity game, which rewards players for making really bad shots. And he has names for them – like the the “Billie,” in honor of Bill Clinton for a lie so bad it’s unplayable. (The joke’s getting old, but it’s a classic.) And there’s the “Willie,” named for Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.” A bad backswing is a CEO. “It’s for a little jerk at the top,” says Schweitzer.
Over the years many bold names have played the game, including Dan Quayle, Michael Douglas, Chip Beck (“Mr. 59”) and Wayne Rogers. This year Robert Wagner will play. And Woody Paige’s ESPN show “Cold Pizza” is coming to Snowmass to cover the tourney and interview the more colorful Trashmasters live. FORE!
Scoot
Have you seen all the scooters in town this weekend? They’re putting around through Monday for Mile High Mayhem, the annual gathering of scooter heads.
The weekend started Thursday night with a meet-and-greet at Nallen’s Irish Pub. On Friday it was brunch at Shotgun Willie’s. Eggs Benedict never looked so good. Then a party in City Park with Suzi Homewrecker.
On Saturday they went to the mountains for a ride followed by a prom at the Walnut Room and a burlesque show. Today, the kids meet at Wash Park, then scoot around the city, ending with a karaoke contest at Sobo 151. Monday it’s the Scooter Racing Nationals at IMI Racetrack in Erie, the NASCAR of Scooterville.
One man arrived Wednesday after driving his scooter here from New Orleans in two days. My butt hurts just writing that.
Mo’ Momo
Venanzio Momo is set to open Via Italian Eatery & Bar in the Ice House in mid-August.
“Via means ‘the way,”‘ says Momo, who also owns the popular Cucina Colore in Cherry Creek. “The Italian way to eat and live.”
The space is smaller than the previous tenant, Brasserie Rouge. And everything except the ceiling and the wood-burning oven is spanking new. “It needed a new soul,” says Momo.
Via will be sleek, modern – and woody, with some cool design elements I promised not to share. It’s Milano comes to Colorado. Like being inside a warm fireplace. Nothing over $20 on the menu.
The crowd? Look for a LoDo version of North.
