Who: Travis & Bryan Yee of Littleton and James & Mike Brogan of Casper, Wyoming
Where: Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Out and about: Winter vacation in Yellowstone primarily limited to as far as you can hike, cross country ski or snowshoe around the Old Faithful area plus excursions to the Canyon Rim via snow mobiles when access is available. The winter beauty is breathtaking. It’s the best time to avoid the park’s infamous crowds, and to truly enjoy the country’s best National Park. The rare opportunity of viewing Old Faithful erupt by yourself (however, often in sub-zero temperatures – but that’s the beauty of it!) is indescribable. Without phones, computers or TV’s, it was a great escape!
Travel Tip: Cars are not allowed in the park. From the South Entrance at Flagg Ranch, we boarded a vintage Bombardier (snow coach) that delivered us to the Snow Lodge at Old Faithful. Accommodations were limited to the newly designed lodge and modest, but very comfortable nearby cabins, where all meals were served in the Lodge’s main dining room or grill. Pack warm snow boots.
