Supporters of two budget measures on this fall’s Colorado ballot are expected to announce today that they will walk the length of the state.

The six-week, 350-mile walk from the borders of Wyoming to New Mexico will include hundreds of people with rallies, concerts and town hall meetings along the way, said Senate Democratic leader Ken Gordon, a walk organizer.

“We want to, in each community, draw people’s attention to the effects on that community of these ballot measures,” Gordon said.

In November, voters will be asked to let the state government keep an estimated $3.6 billion more over the next five years than its constitutional limits currently allow.

Voters also will decide whether to let the state take out $2.1 billion in loans to pay for transportation and other improvements.

The tour for Referendums C and D will hit Fort Collins, Greeley, Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo and will include some smaller stops, Gordon said.

Republican Sens. Steve Johnson of Fort Collins and Norma Anderson of Lakewood are also working with Gordon to organize the effort.

Other legislators will join the walk along the way, Gordon said.

The official announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. today on the west steps of the state Capitol.

The walk will begin near the Wyoming border on Sept. 3 and end Oct. 13 near New Mexico. For more information, go online to www.thecoloradowalk.org.
