The Ski Train has fired up for the summer season, running for five consecutive Saturdays through Aug. 27. Clickety-clack your way into Winter Park just as they did in the old days and enjoy the vistas of the Flatirons and South Boulder Canyon along the way. The blackness of the lengthy Moffat Tunnel is pretty cool, too. The train leaves Union Station at 9 a.m. and takes a couple of hours. It leaves Winter Park at 3 p.m., providing roughly four hours for play time in town or at the ski area. Train tickets include free transport for bikes, so pedaling at the ski area or the dozens of trails in the Fraser Valley is a good option. The alpine slide is a romp to remember. Rumor has it a bear recently stumbled across the concrete slide, adding a new potential thrill to the high-speed scoot. The stroll along the Fraser River is pleasant, and a ride up the Zephyr chairlift gets you higher without the heavy breathing. Round-trip train tickets are $44 for grown-ups and $34 for children 13 and younger.
