I was really surprised to see the golf course in such great shape, and I mean that as a compliment.
With 100-degree temperatures the past month, I thought there would be some stressed areas, maybe some thin areas. But the course is in terrific shape.
Usually when a course is in excellent shape, as they are every week on the PGA Tour, it means it is ripe for scoring. If the weather holds, that could be the case. We could see some low scores this week, or in the case of Stableford points, I mean some high scores, some good scores.
What I’ve noticed is the greens seem to be more receptive than in past years; they seem softer.
And the rain we got (this week) will only make them more receptive. Usually, when we think of Castle Pines, we think of hard and fast (greens). Guys can be going for some pins.
The only thing is, the rain and cold weather predicted today will make the course play longer. That could hurt the scoring.
I feel good about my game. I came in here early and got in some good practice sessions with (coach) Mike McGetrick.
I remember playing Castle Pines when it first opened, before there was an International. It would be special to win a tournament in the city where I grew up. I’m eager to get started.
