Members of the U.S. Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission on Thursday visited two Denver-area military facilities that are being considered for reduction, closure or relocation.
In May, the commission voted to place the Air Force Reserve Personnel Center on the list. In July, it added the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. Together, the two facilities represent nearly 1,300 jobs.
The two offices share the three-story Buckley Annex building at the corner of East First Avenue and Quebec Street. The building is under the supervision of Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.
Sen. Wayne Allard and Gov. Bill Owens are scheduled to speak at a commission hearing Monday in Monterey, Calif.
Base-closure commissioner Philip Coyle spoke at a news conference Wednesday at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum saying the commission’s first priority is to review the accuracy of a report saying the Denver facilities should be closed.
The commission will report its findings and suggestions to President Bush by Sept. 8.
