Sometimes the tastiest treats are not readily found when sticking to the main road through town. Case in point: Leadville’s Casa Blanca Restaurant. Only one block off Leadville’s lofty main street, los concineros at the cantina aim to reward those who venture off the worn path with what is likely the best authentic Mexican food in the high country. For the ready-to-eat-the- salsa-bowl hungry, there’s the two-plated large combo. Ferried by Popeye-armed servers, the behemoth combo pretty much samples the entire menu. For the slightly less starving, the “small” combo is plenty of food. The Mexican pizza is delicious, as are the egg-crowned Enchilada Tejans. Save room for dessert. The creamy churros and fried ice cream are definite crowd-pleasers.
