The question under discussion: Should intelligent design, the idea that human beings are not a chance happening, be taught in schools alongside evolution as a scientific theory?
Those in favor, like President Bush, say kids should be given the information. Opponents say it’s another way religionists are trying to slide the gospel into public schools.

In honor of the Broncos preseason opener, two stations give us football movies. “Necessary Roughness” (1991) stars Scott Bakula as an aging player who goes back to college (7 p.m., KWGN-Channel 2), and “Any Given Sunday” (1999) stars Al Pacino and Dennis Quaid, who struggle against a cheapskate owner (7 p.m., KMGH-Channel 7).

“VJ Day 60th Anniversary” marks the end of World War II with wartime footage and ceremonies commemorating Japan’s surrender (7:25 p.m., History Channel).
“My Kind of Town” brings reality in the form of games and gags with friends and neighbors to your backyard in its premiere (8 p.m., Channel 7).
