Are you ready for some Broncos foot-baw?
Yes, we’re still hanging on the patio but it’s time to begin those preseason chip lifts on the couch.
The Broncos open their exhibition (pardon me, “preseason”) schedule Saturday against the Houston Texans (6 p.m., KCNC-Channel 4).
KOA 850-AM, the Broncos radio outlet since 1969, unveils its new behind-the-mic team of Dave Logan and former Broncos lineman David Diaz-Infante. Hard to believe, but Logan is starting his ninth year as the Broncos’ play-by-play guy. KOA opens its day with Mike Rice on “Countdown to Kickoff” at 4 p.m. and finishes with fans calling in to complain on “The Grid Iron Grill” after the game. That’s about nine hours of coverage.
On the TV side, Channel 4, a.k.a. the “Official Broncos Station,” is gearing up too.
Gary Miller doing the play-by-play with Steve Atkinson and Mark Schlereth as his analysts, and Vic Lombardi cruising the sidelines.
Lombardi will be plenty busy. He’s hosting the station’s pre- and post-game shows too. Channel 4’s coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. and probably won’t end until 10 p.m.
Haven’t had enough? The game will repeat at 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Fox Sports Network.
Golf, golf, golf
How about 27 hours of golf?
All those golfers who skipped The International to get ready for the PGA Championship get back to work today.
TNT carries the play of Tiger Woods et al for 17 hours, starting at 11 a.m. today and Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Channel 4 joins the fun with an additional 10 hours of coverage at noon Saturday and Sunday.
Little League series in HD
The better to see you with.
For the first time, ABC Sports and its corporate buddies ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes will cover the Little League World Series in high definition, beginning with regional finals on Friday. The networks carry 40 games, starting Friday. The championship game is Aug. 28. It’s the 43rd consecutive year ABC has covered the tournament.
Around the dial
Bob Costas interviews Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong on “Costas Now” (7 p.m. Friday) on HBO. Other guests include Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa and one-time Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis, famous as the man who pitched a no-hitter on LSD. … Something other than football? The Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo pops up on the Outdoor Life Network at 6 p.m. Saturday. … Forty of the nation’s best high-school baseball players hook up in the Aflac All-American Classic Saturday (noon, FSN). Check out pitcher Jordan Walden, a coming star. … Quotable: “Football really prepares you for nothing. The only thing I got out of football was the ability to work hard, and that’s it.” Gale Sayers
