San Jose, Calif. – Jean Philippe Peguero’s fourth goal of the season gave the Colorado Rapids a 1-1 tie with the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night.
San Jose extended its Western Conference lead to three points over FC Dallas, which lost 2-1 to the New England Revolution. The loss was Dallas’ first home loss of the season, leaving San Jose (6-0-5) the only remaining MLS team unbeaten at home.
The Rapids remain in fourth place, behind the Los Angeles Galaxy, in the conference.
Kyle Beckerman set up Peguero’s tying goal in the 56th minute, when the Haitian forward beat defender Danny Califf and fired past goalkeeper Pat Onstad.
Ricardo Clark scored San Jose’s goal in the 48th minute, off assists from Alejandro Moreno and Dwayne De Rosario. The latter supplied the final pass to San Jose’s defensive midfielder, who fired a near-post blast past Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon.
Colorado’s Jeff Cunningham had the game’s last scoring chance, heading Terry Cooke’s free kick just wide of San Jose’s net in the final seconds.
