Getting your player ready...

Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey is likely to miss his second consecutive preseason game because of a hamstring injury.

If Bailey practices today and feels he can play Saturday night against the San Francisco 49ers, he will. But he’s not counting on it.

“I want to play, but I don’t know,” Bailey said Thursday. “Probably next week. I have to get some time in the preseason. But it’s looking like next week.”

Bailey twice has aggravated the hamstring he tweaked two weeks ago. The injury is not serious, and it isn’t expected to put his status in danger for the Sept. 11 regular-season opener at Miami.

“I’m not missing any regular-season games,” said Bailey, who hasn’t missed one in six seasons.

Defensive tackle Gerard Warren practiced Thursday. He sat out Wednesday because of a hamstring injury that kept him out of last week’s game. He is expected to play against the 49ers.

Cornerback Roc Alexander missed the past two practices but may play Saturday. Running back Quentin Griffin is expected to dress but not play, resting his knee again. He is expected to play Aug. 27 against Indianapolis.

Plummer works through aches

Jake Plummer began training camp wearing no protection on his surgically repaired left knee. Then he started wrapping it with cloth roll. Then he covered it with a sleeve. Thursday, he started wearing a small brace.

“It’s sore. It’s tired,” he said. “After all these two-a-days, I don’t think there’s too many guys in there who could tell you their bodies are 100 percent healthy. It’s something I knew was a concern coming in. I took a shot on it a couple weeks ago and aggravated it. But I think now that we’re going to one-a- days, I’ll be able to continue to get treatment from (trainer Steve Antonopulos) and I’ll be able to go out there and play.”

Plummer has not asked to sit out a practice.

“Going into your ninth year, you wouldn’t mind getting offered,” he said. “But when it’s not offered, you don’t say anything about it. I’ve got to get out here and set the tone.”
