Coverage of CU raises red flag
The past two years The Denver Post has printed every rumor and unfounded allegation against the University of Colorado’s football program, the more sensational the better. Now that these stories have lost steam because they were untrue, The Post has found a new way to stick it to the Buffaloes – ignore them and publicize conference rivals.
One day after CU held its fan appreciation day (Aug. 20), not only did The Post pretend it didn’t exist, it put a picture of Nebraska’s fan appreciation day on Page 2! The lazy “journalists” at The Post easily could have taken the same picture at Folsom Field on Saturday that would have featured a Colorado fan, but that would have gone against its anti-CU mantra. I doubt newspapers in Lincoln featured any pictures of CU fans.
Colorado deserves better than this.

Oops, he did it again
In the late 1960s I was delighted as a Dolphins fan when they drafted Jimmy Hines, holder of the world record in the 100-meter dash. He came into camp with a flourish, and within days there were tales of his juking the cornerbacks out of their socks. “The guy is always open,” the coaches boasted. But he couldn’t catch the ball. Within two weeks his teammates had given him a nickname that stuck. He was “Oops” Hines. He spent the season on the taxi squad, never figured out how to catch a football, and was released during the next training camp.
Last week at the San Francisco 49ers game, Darius Watts dropped his second ball in the fourth quarter, and I said to my wife, “That guy’s Denver’s answer to ‘Oops’ Hines!”
