Frisco – Town merchants aren’t eager to welcome Home Depot to the neighborhood.

The town manager has recommended the company be allowed to build a 102,500-square-foot megastore, but some mom-and-pop operators are worried that it would ruin their businesses.

Steve Thompson, owner of Bucksworth Supply, said he isn’t sure his business would survive if residents approve the Home Depot proposal in January.

The Home Depot is expected to generate $1.2 million in tax revenue its first year.

“Home Depot might bring in that much revenue, but how much will you lose from the 10 or 12 stores they’ll put out of business?” Thompson said.

Town Manager Michael Penny said he thinks Home Depot would be a destination business that brings more people to Frisco and benefits other shops.
