The scar above the bridge of Calvin Throckmorton’s nose will not have formed in vain.
Vanity, typically, is the least of an offensive lineman’s concerns in the first place.
This one, though, has a story behind it. Throckmorton was helmet-less at the bottom of a pile during the Broncos’ biggest training camp scrum a couple weeks back.
When asked about it Friday after Denver’s preseason finale, the veteran offensive lineman and fringe roster player smiled.
“A little reminder of this training camp and hopefully what itap going to lead to down the road,” Throckmorton told The Post.
Throckmorton is indeed going to be with the Broncos down the road despite being released Sunday. He’s one of four known veterans to sign back to Denver’s practice squad so far Monday.
Teams can put as many as 17 players on their practice squad as long as one of them qualifies as an international exemption. Of the 16 others, up to six can be vested veterans.
The Broncos, meanwhile, lost fifth-round tight end Justin Joly and reserve nickel and special teams standout Reese Taylor to the Miami Dophins on the waiver wire.
General manager George Paton sounded like he was prepared to lose Joly after the team waived him Sunday.
“Justin is a talented player,” Paton said. “We knew it when we drafted him. We knew he was raw. We still like the player. He was coming on towards the end of training camp. Tight end position is a tough position for a rookie. He missed a lot of the offseason — just a little bit behind. We wish we had another game or two. We still like the player.
“We think he’s going to have a nice career. You just have to make tough decisions to build the best 53 you can make.”
