    “Cash for Cans Challenge” begins

Aluminum cans recycled will be counted in the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ “Cash for Cans Challenge,” which carries $5,000 in prizes for innovation and tonnage collected. The effort began Thursday and continues through Sept. 16.

Proceeds will be used to improve the city’s recyling facilities. Last year, the effort raised more than $7,000 for the Table Mountain Youth Soccer Club. Cans should be taken to the south end of the parking lot at The Splash water park, 3151 Illinois St. For more information, call 303-384-8183.
