Echo Mountain Snowboard and Ski Park is the new name of the long-shuttered Squaw Pass ski area, owner Gerald Petitt announced Thursday.

When it opens in midwinter, the ski area south of Idaho Springs will have roughly 30 acres of ski and snowboard terrain park accessed by a triple chairlift.

“The name represents the focus that we have on the echo-boom generation, the 12- to 29-year-olds,” said Petitt, who is spending more than $5 million to get the ski area up and running. “That’s our customer.”

Daily pass prices will range between $30 and $40.

Echo Mountain, which is installing snowmaking equipment, will employ 10 people year-round and roughly 50 people during the winter, said general manager Doug Donovan.

The ski area will boost secondary businesses in the area, said Peggy Stokstad, president of the Clear Creek County Economic Development Corp.

“We do know that they are going to contribute significantly to the revenues of Clear Creek County,” she said.
