Q: Scott,

I stumbled on to your column today while trying to find what other
newspapers are saying about Omaha. I read your column and liked it.

Like Adam, I have been casually thinking about moving to Denver. Is
there a good job market out there? Should I find a job before I find a
location or a location, then search for a job?

Thanks

SCOTT: You didn’t mention which industry you’re in, but I can tell you that overall,
the Denver job market is coming back after a two-year slump when over 75,000
jobs were lost (hey, at least we’re on the upswing!). But that’s probably
indicative of job markets nationwide.

The average price of a single family home is about $275,000 in Denver and
$175,000 is your average condo price. However, some fear the real estate is
overvalued everywhere right now so it might not be a bad idea to rent for a
while.

Also, we’re still working on improving the air quality, but that’s
going to take some more rather long-term changes. Our new $2 billion transit
system should help.

Denver really is a great place to live and work, and no matter what industry
you’re in, if you can bring something to the table, then you’ve got yourself
a job!

Just be realistic about your strengths and weaknesses, education,
experience, etc.

Look for the job first then research the location, and what
better way to do that than the Internet? I shudder to think of what my life
was like before the Internet.

Come to think of it, that’s how I feel about Denver too!
