Last week: 13th step of state Capitol, Denver
The winner – by a mile: Greg Guyer of Westminster
“When the Capitol was built in downtown Denver, the steps to the Capitol were all talking. In 1909, the 15th step proclaimed that he was the step that was 1 mile high, and so a plaque was placed on him. In 1969, the 18th step became jealous of the 15th step’s notoriety and started a coup. He made so much noise that the marker was moved just to shut him up. The 13th step began a revolt in 2003. She knew the truth and demanded that the marker be moved to her. After several surveys, all the other steps agreed that the 13th step was correct, and so today you will find the marker on the 13th step of the Capitol. However, they let the other steps keep their markers as something to remember. And to confuse everyone else.”
