Events sometimes veer from their purpose – and in the case of The Golda, an awards luncheon hosted by Allied Jewish Federation, that turned out to be a very profitable thing.

AJF doesn’t intend for The Golda to be a fundraiser (its purpose is to celebrate the community contributions of an outstanding woman), but instead of buying gifts, token or otherwise, for the honoree, many guests make contributions to a charity of her choice. The 200 who recently gathered at Green Gables Country Club to fete Linda Fenner gave $12,500 in donations to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee’s Eshet Chayil, or woman of valor, program. Eshet Chayil works to improve the status of Ethiopian-Israeli women marginalized in Israeli society by being kept out of the workforce.

Fenner is a past president and current member of the Federation’s Jewish Women’s Philanthropy Center board and represents Colorado on the United Jewish Communities’ National Women’s Philanthropy Board. She’s also on the board of Jewish Family Service of Colorado.

“I have always been enormously proud of Linda’s many accomplishments,” said Terry Fenner, her husband. “She carries herself with dignity, she speaks with wisdom and kindness, and with immense courage she challenges the future.”

Fenner received the award from previous honoree Lee Kay. “Linda, you are true beauty, inside and out. I am proud to give you this gift in recognition of all that you have done, and will continue to do.”
