State House Republican leader Joe Stengel said Tuesday that he dropped a complaint accusing a Democratic legislator of campaigning with state resources.
Democratic House Speaker Andrew Romanoff of Denver asked Stengel, of Littleton, to withdraw the complaint, Stengel said.
“He asked me as a friend, and he asked me as the speaker,” he said.
Stengel filed the complaint last month against Democratic Rep. Buffie McFadyen of Pueblo, alleging that she used a state- funded trip to advocate for November’s budget measures, Referendums C and D, which ask voters to allow the state to keep an estimated $3.7 billion for state services.
“I appreciate the complaint being withdrawn. We need to be back focusing on the work of the state for the betterment of all Coloradans,” McFadyen said.
Romanoff told Stengel, who opposes the measures, that he would ensure the committee is not using state time or resources to campaign, Stengel said.
