Rice a class act on, off field
As a retired NFL referee and with the announcement of the retirement of Jerry Rice, I can comment on the qualities of Rice not only as the greatest receiver of all time, but more importantly the manner, work ethic and the role model he portrayed for the youth of America and parents throughout this great country. During my 13 years on the field, Rice was always the consummate professional. I feel extremely fortunate to have witnessed his wonderful skills on the gridiron and his humble and gracious actions off the field. I never, ever heard a negative word uttered by Rice during my tenure. He was always a gentleman regardless of where the game was played or the outcome.
My wishes go with Rice and his family to a well-deserved retirement and now some great times to spend with his family. Hopefully, he will continue to contribute to the game and the youth of America in some capacity.

Leave no trace means just that
Just a comment regarding your response to the question about what to do with diapers on a four-day canoe trip – the correct answer is pack them out! Washing cloth diapers (far from a stream – yeah, right) and dumping the waste scatters lots of nasty stuff no one wants to come across. And if everyone buried the poop from their kids, themselves and their dogs, all the campsites would quickly become giant litter boxes. Additionally, most rivers have regulations that all human and pet waste be carried out, so even if you’re not inclined, it is the law in most places.
