Steve Irwin, the 2004 Colorado Golf Association player of the year from Lakewood Country Club, shot a 2-under-par final-round 70 on Sunday to win the 2005 CGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Haymaker Golf Course in Steamboat Springs.

Irwin, the 2003 Mid-Amateur champ, was the only player to finish under par for the tournament. His total of 212 put him seven strokes ahead of second-place finisher Michael Harrington of Kissing Camels Golf Club. Harrington, the leader after two rounds, carded a 78 in the final round. Seven-time Mid-Amateur champion and Colorado Golf Hall of Fame member Rick Dewitt of Westwoods Golf Course in Arvada finished in a tie for third with 2005 CGA Senior Stroke Play champion Robert Polk of The Pinery Country Club at 7-over par. Jim Doidge of Pueblo Country Club and Matt Strong of Wellshire Golf Course shot 224 to tie for fifth.
