Schools’ new stadium gets kickoff
Jefferson County Public Schools’ remodeled Jeffco Stadium will be rededicated at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29. As part of the ceremonies, Mel Schwartz – a Wheat Ridge teacher and coach – will be honored posthumously as a trailblazer.
The stadium, the home facility for 18 district schools, has a new press box tower, mezzanine area, concessions, ticket booth and restrooms after a $1.5 million renovation funded by a 2004 bond vote.
The stadium, at 500 Kipling St., will open at 5:30 p.m. Immediately after the ceremony, Wheat Ridge High School will play its homecoming football game against Mountain Vista High School.
AURORA
College to host Latino artists
Local Latino artists will celebrate their heritage with a multimedia performance Sept. 28 at the Community College of Aurora.
The free event will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the student rotunda at the Community College of Aurora’s CentreTech campus, 16000 East CentreTech Parkway, near Chambers Road and East Second Avenue.

GREELEY
Oktoberfest lifts stein to Germans
Local German heritage will be celebrated at Greeley’s 16th annual Oktoberfest from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Park, at Eighth Street and Ninth Avenue. The event will feature music, beer, contests and entertainment.
Admission is free. A processional and opening toast are scheduled for 1 p.m.
