Getting your player ready...

After being activated from manager Clint Hurdle’s version of the NFL practice squad, Mike Esposito (8-9, 5.49 ERA in Triple-A) will become the sixth rookie pitcher to work for the Rockies this season. No Rockies starter has won his debut since Chin-Hui Tsao in 2003. The Rockies’ 12th-round pick in the 2002 draft, Esposito is the 82nd Arizona State Sun Devil to play in the big leagues, a group that includes Barry Bonds and Reggie Jackson. Padres ace Jake Peavy (12-7, 2.98), who went 12 days between his past two starts as a concession to a sore shoulder, has held opponents to a .217 average.
