Busy guitars and ambitious vocals wrapped in a pop-rock package characterize “Cosmic,” this Denver band’s new six-song EP featuring four songs produced by Peter DiStefano of Porno for Pyros. The quartet launches the album and films a video for the new song “Breakthrough” on Saturday at Herman’s Hideaway, 1578 S. Broadway. With The Trampolines, Kelli*Said (also releasing a new CD) and Silence the Satellites. Doors at 7:30 p.m. $7.

Top Denver jazz personalities take on music by Charles Mingus during the first installment of the “School of Music Reform,” a weekly experimental music and discussion series at The Lab at Belmar, 7180 W. Alaska Drive, Lakewood. The six-part series is designed for both music aficionados and casual fans. It will combine the area’s leading musicians with a surprise entertainment element.
