Mountain Lions dominate Springs races
Colorado-Colorado Springs cross country teams ran away with the men’s and women’s titles Saturday at Colorado College Invitational at North Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs.
The Mountain Lions women took five of the top six spots for 15 points, the fewest possible under the top-five finisher format.
Shannon Payne led the pack of UCCS runners, finishing at 22 minutes, 21.70 seconds. Payne was 15 seconds ahead of teammate Sarah Shepard, who was second.
Kellyn Johnson of Cloud County (Kan.) Community College was third, followed by UCCS runners Megan Lund, Ashley Birger and Addie Devine.
Three Mountain Lions men finished among the top seven, with Brad Winn placing second in 27:00.80 and Aaron Rubalcaba-Lopez third in 27:05.40.
Dane Steward of Garden City (Kan.) Community College took the men’s title in 26:21.50.
Aggies, Falcons get best of Wyoming
New Mexico State won four singles matches, the most of any school, at the Wyoming Invitational women’s tennis tournament in Laramie.
Paulina Zuniga and Violaine Rollet won in three-set tiebreakers to lead the Aggies.
Air Force won three singles matches over Wyoming. The Falcons’ Kat Bushey beat Patricia Chien, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2; Christine Abayan defeated Andrea House, 6-1, 6-1; and Erika Shortridge downed Michelle Brown, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
The Cowgirls won two singles matches against the the Falcons: Karolina Rowinski beat Karissa Walker, 6-1, 6-1; and Corina Lazar beat Lauren Wilson, 6-1, 6-1.
