Gophers get it done
Minnesota rallied late to tie its game with No. 11 Purdue when Matt Spaeth, above, caught a touchdown pass with 1:34 left and the Gophers converted the two-point conversion. Then, Gary Russell scored the last of his three touchdowns and Minnesota’s defense held on to give the Gophers a 42-35, double-overtime victory. It was coach Glen Mason’s first win in seven tries against the Boilermakers. Gophers running back Laurence Maroney rushed for a career-high 217 yards.
