State runners place at world championship
Laura Haefeli of Del Norte and Simon Gutierrez of Alamosa were the top Americans on Sunday at the World Mountain Running Championships in Wellington, New Zealand.
Haefeli finished eighth in the women’s race and Gutierrez was 10th in the men’s. Tim Parr of Gunnison was 36th in the men’s race and Anita Ortiz of Eagle was 45th in the women’s.
Falcons finish back of the pack in Nevada
The Air Force men’s golf team finished 17th at the University of Nevada’s Wolf Pack Invitational with a three-round score of 895.
Nevada won the team title at the 6,937-yard ArrowCreek Golf Club in Reno with a 12-under-par 852. Tyler Goulding led the Falcons and tied for 29th at 2-over-par 218. Matt Bortis of Arkansas won the individual title with 206.
Benton paces Rams in New Mexico
A combined team score of 918 put the Colorado State women’s golf team in 14th place after the final round of the Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico Championship course in Albuquerque.
Pepperdine won the title with an 873 at the par-73, 6,069-yard course. Texas A&M was second at 875. Chelsea Benton led the Rams with a 222 and finished in 21st.
