Getting your player ready...

After the Broncos’ last visit to Florida, their cornerback situation was left in shambles.

Sunday, the Broncos may enter their game at Jacksonville in the same shape.

Three of Denver’s six cornerbacks, including starter Champ Bailey and Darrent Williams, did not practice for the second straight day. Roc Alexander was the other cornerback not to practice Thursday.

It appears the injury situation may be uncertain until game day. While Williams said he hopes to practice today, his ankle injury could preclude his activity and Bailey – who has a hamstring injury – may not try to run fully until Sunday.

“We’ll have to see on both of them,” Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. “We still have some time.”

Denver’s healthy cornerbacks are Lenny Walls and rookies Domonique Foxworth and Karl Paymah. Walls and Foxworth will likely play extensively even if Bailey and Williams play.

“I’m playing Sunday,” said Williams, who was injured in the second quarter of Monday’s victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bailey is hopeful. He said his left hamstring, injured against the Chiefs, has improved.

“If I make the same progress as I did in the past three games, I’ll play,” Bailey said. “I know a lot of people think I’m going to play and I think so, too.”

He said he’ll probably have to continue wearing the shoulder harness.

Spicer ready to go

Jacksonville defensive end Paul Spicer has said he has been looking forward to this game.

Last year, Spicer suffered a broken leg against Denver when Broncos left tackle Matt Lepsis inadvertently dived into him as he was being blocked high by running back Reuben Droughns. Shanahan has called the play a “freak accident.” Lepsis was not fined for the play.

Still Spicer, who had three sacks against the Jets last week, made it clear he wants to win this game.

“The best revenge is going out there and beating them, 30-0, and seeing that goose egg up there when the time has expired,” Spicer said.

Body clock factor

When the Broncos appeared flat in their 34-10 loss at Miami in the season opener, one of the theories circulated was the 1 p.m. Eastern time zone start put the players’ body clocks at 11 a.m.

Although Shanahan said the theory was more excuse than factor against the Dolphins, he didn’t dismiss it while preparing his team for another 11 a.m. Mountain time zone start Sunday at Jacksonville.

“We change our clocks so Friday we practice at the same time of the game,” Shanahan said. “And we have our meetings earlier, very similar to when we have to wake up in Jacksonville. We do change the routine and try to catch up.”

The Broncos moved the start of practice today up an hour todayto 10:45 a.m. Denver will fly to Jacksonville on Saturday.
