The National Lacrosse League approved the Mammoth’s re-signing of four-time all-star defender Pat Coyle and former rookie of the year Brian Langtry on Thursday. Coyle, 36, leads what appears to be an improved defense, based on Tuesday’s signing of free agent Rich Catton, who was coveted by Calgary, his former team, and Arizona, the defending West Division champion.
Catton recently teamed with Mammoth players John Gallant and Nick Carlson to win the Mann Cup, Canada’s national championship, as members of the Victoria (British Columbia) Shamrocks.
Langtry, 29, is the team’s leading playoff goal scorer with 12 in four games.
Hanson wins individual title
Jeff Hanson of Red Sky Golf Club had two birdies and an eagle in his first 13 holes and closed out Heikke Nielsen of Cherry Hills Country Club 7 and 5 to win the Colorado Section PGA Individual Match Play title at Meridian Golf Club in Englewood.
Scott Walter of Bear Creek Golf Club defeated Bob Stallman of Highlands Ranch Golf Club in 19 holes to win the senior division. Walter birdied the sudden-death hole for the win.
The Overland Golf Course team won a one-hole sudden-death playoff over teams from The Ranch Country Club and Heritage Eagle Bend to win the Colorado Women’s Golf Association Club Team Championship at Kissing Camels Club in Colorado Springs. Marla Straw led the Overland team with an 80. Norma Bisdorf (89), Denise Garcia (95) and Cheryl Schadle (105) made up the rest of the team.
