Getting your player ready...

It’s just four months until spring training and not too soon to offer words of encouragement to loyal fans of the Rockies.

The 2005 season – the “youth movement” – was often an exercise in futility. The team’s record, 67-95, matched the Rockies’ debut in 1993.

But you know baseball – there’s often a stat within a stat worth pondering, and the Rockies’ record in the second half of the campaign breathes hope for the home team.

After losing heavily early on, the young Rox posted a 30-28 record in the last two months of the season. They were 22-17 against National League West foes after the All-Star break.

This sharp improvement gives reason to think the Rockies will blossom next year and begin to fill Coors Field once again.

For now, all eyes are on baseball’s playoffs, which kicked off this week. Perhaps next year the young Rockies will give us a pennant race for the ages.
