A long, dark shadow now hangs over Broncos fans
Broncos fans, fasten your seat belts to keep yourselves from throwing something at the TV screen. Based on the Chiefs game, it appears a long, slow, grinding season is about to transpire for the Broncos and their legion of fans. There is a deep, dark, unexpected issue with the team. A team does not play that poorly in all facets without there being an underlying reason, and it isn’t about to be quickly corrected in the next five games. Be ready, Broncos fans; 0-6 may be on the horizon.

Don’t buy into Trump’s election problem claims
Re: “Voter fraud is rare, but we can make it rarer with Amendment 84,” September 13 opinion column
It seems odd that Krista Kafer, on the one hand, blames President Donald Trump, 100%, for the low confidence in our voting system, and at the same time recommends one of Trump’s standard, con-artist gimmicks — passing a law to tackle an imaginary problem. Amendment 84 will not necessarily prevent the rare incidents she mentions. Kafer’s well-meaning solution, just like Trump’s crackpot approach, will only convince more people that “there must be a problem, otherwise it wouldn’t need to be fixed.”

Michael Allen is the better pick of Griswold for AG
Re: “Jena Griswold scandal should get voters to look seriously at her opponent,” August 23, opinion column
I would like to know what qualifications Jena Griswold has to run the Colorado Attorney General’s office, besides fighting Trump? This position should require a background in law enforcement, which Griswold does not possess. Michael Allen has worked for more than 20 years as a district attorney and prosecutor. This position should not be judged by party lines but rather by qualifications and experience. Also, the AG’s office depends on security for sensitive information, which Griswold does not seem to have for the Secretary of State’s office. In October 2024, it was discovered that passwords for voting system components were exposed due to a spreadsheet uploaded to the internet and publicly available. Then, on August 26, 2026, 133,000 confidential voter profiles were leaked over the state’s website for 11 days due to a software update. One of those profiles was Michael Allen’s.
If Jena Griswold doesn’t take security seriously at the Secretary of State’s Office, how can she be trusted to run the AG’s Office?

Trump goes after journalists
Re: “Trump using power to stifle speech,” September 13, news story
The DOJ has sent FBI agents to reporters’ homes to serve warrants and, in one case, issued a warrant to seize devices. The Pentagon has fired the editor and publisher of The Independent newspaper Stars and Stripes and blocked access to other journalist that would limit their recording. Welcome to 1944 Germany. Guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what other house crimes they are going to commit?

Steinem helped women take office
In all the tributes to Gloria Steinem, I’m surprised no one has mentioned her role in getting women elected to public office. Soon after she started Ms. Magazine, she helped Pat Schroeder become Colorado’s first Congresswoman in 1972. Steinem paid her own way to Denver to encourage folks to vote for Pat. After one such event attended by some 500 people, a few of us took her out for dinner. It was amusing to see our husbands, including my own, jostle one another to sit next to Gloria.
