A woman who was shot several times Sunday morning managed to stumble out of her Denver apartment and was spotted by neighbors, who called police.
The woman was in critical condition at Swedish Medical Center, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said.
Police are looking for Ezamika Brown, 25, who they allege is the shooter.
A warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.
Brown has a lengthy criminal record, including arrests on charges of possessing drugs, domestic violence, assault, harassment, burglary, violating restraining orders, shoplifting and witness or victim retaliation.
Several of those arrests were in conjunction with domestic- violence allegations, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
Jackson said he did not know the relationship between Brown and the victim but said the shooting was possibly related to domestic violence.
The victim was not identified by police.
The shooting occurred just before 8 a.m. on the third floor of an apartment complex in the 2500 block of South Dayton Way.
A neighbor who lives on the same floor said that he did not hear the gunshots and that police woke him up to ask him if he knew anything.
Yellow police tape surrounded the building for several hours Sunday. Brown already had a warrant out for his arrest issued in August by Lakewood police on charges of burglary, felony menacing, assault and harassment and violating a second subsequent protective order. No details about who asked for the protective orders were available Sunday.
Brown was convicted of a felony in 2003 for possessing a dangerous drug but received a five-year suspended sentence he never completed, according to court records.
