Zachary Johnson, a senior at Brighton Heritage Academy, earned the rank of Eagle Scout in June.

As a Boy Scout, Zachary helped with municipal cleanup, such as picking up trash and planting trees. His Eagle Scout project helped the Longmont Humane Society, where he planned and supervised the installation of a fence to prevent animals from running onto the street.

He also helped on other Scouts’ Eagle projects, building lockers for a fire station, constructing a walkway at Barr Lake and installing a biodegradable fence at the Adams County Fairgrounds to provide a habitat for prairie dogs.

Zachary received the Arrow of Light while he was a Cub Scout. In Boy Scouts, he participated in the Order of the Arrow after being nominated by his fellow students.

He is also active in his church, Village Baptist, where he has volunteered for many service projects, including working in a soup kitchen and collecting canned food for the needy. Two years ago, he went to Florida on a mission trip in which he helped build houses and storage units for Habitat for Humanity.

In school, Zachary has received a math award for excellence and, on two occasions, was awarded the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. He received an academic letter in his freshman year. He carries a 3.0 grade-point average.
