Is Carbondale the center of the known universe? People who live there seem to think so.
And folks enticed to stop in the funky downtown for a day or a maybe a few might find themselves convinced that ‘Bonedale is more than just a place to just pass through on the way to somewhere else.
Located between skiing in Aspen and soaking in Glenwood Springs, Carbondale
starts at the intersection of Colorado 82 and 133 and seems to go on forever, at least in
terms of opportunity.
There’s year-round hiking, most-of-the-year mountain biking, free nordic
skiing, Gold Medal fishing, and a restaurant row with about a dozen good spots to
sup. Looking on down the road, the town has a new recreation center on
the slate for spring, and a new paved bike path to Crested Butte coming
together very nicely.
Star chart: Carbondale is about 15 miles from Glenwood Springs on
Colorado 82. Turn right on Colorado 133 and then turn left on Main
Street to get to the center of town.
