Wie column resonates

As a former nationally ranked collegiate athlete and a businesswoman who has struggled with old-school male egos for decades, I thoroughly enjoyed Mark Kiszla’s article in support of Michelle Wie!

Though my husband and I do not have kids, I coach junior high and high school girls basketball and volleyball and very much related to what you had to say about 15-year-old girls and the challenges of teaching and encouraging young female athletes to do what it takes to become strong, confident, independent women while also letting them be kids!

You made my day and also reminded me there are supportive fathers out there who are not threatened by strong, successful women. With a father like you, I am sure your daughter will achieve all her dreams.

Don’t mess with Texas

If Texas runs the table and doesn’t make it to the Rose Bowl, several things will happen:

1. Texas will secede from the Union. Few people know the state’s original deal with the United States makes it very easy to do. Basically a phone call does it.

2. The next thing we’ll do (as I’ll be moving back to Texas) is cut off the oil.

3. Then we’ll invade Oklahoma. We’re feeling a tad cocky about those folks these days.

4. With the revenue we’ll buy ABC. Yes, we’re a bit upset about them cutting away from us two weeks in a row, so “Desperate Housewives” will be renamed “Desperate Darlin’s.”

5. As for BCS officials, we have plenty of rope.

Don’t say you weren’t warned.
