Provo, Utah – Colorado State defensive tackle Delroy Parke spent Saturday recuperating from arthroscopic knee surgery back home in Fort Collins while his teammates waited around all day for a late kickoff at Brigham Young.
Parke tore cartilage in Thursday’s practice and was a surprise addition to the Rams’ injured list. He is out indefinitely. Linebacker Jahmal Hall, listed as doubtful all week, also did not make the trip.
The senior defensive tackle was having his best season and played a big part in the goal-line stand that preserved last week’s victory over Utah. He was replaced by Erik Sandie, making his first career start. Sandie, Parke and Blake Smith had a three-man rotation in the interior defensive line. Matt Rupp and Cleodis Floyd moved into backup roles. The staff pulled the redshirt off freshman defensive tackle Shawn McGoveran, who became the second member of his class to play this season.
Hall has struggled with a chronic knee injury most of his career and has missed playing time every season. CSU coach Sonny Lubick said he understood the problem was a loose bone chip. Hall re-injured his knee celebrating the goal-line stand a week ago. His status is uncertain for the rest of the season.
But center Albert Bimper, who missed the last game with a hamstring injury, made the trip for emergency availability. Offensive guard Josh Day, who also sat out last week with a hamstring pull, returned to the starting lineup.
Waiting game
An 8 p.m. kickoff means a long day anywhere, but the time really seemed to drag in the team hotel. The coaches dispatched the players to a local screening of the movie “Two for the Money,” a football and gambling flick.
Up next
Colorado State and BYU next play teams likely to still be brooding over close, late losses. CSU hosts Wyoming and BYU will face an irate Notre Dame club. … There are fewer than 3,500 tickets remaining for the Wyoming-CSU game.
