Prince Harry is up for a promotion – either to sergeant or corporal – after just five months in the British army, according to several British website reports.

Officers at the Sandhurst Military Academy have been impressed by Harry’s work ethic and instinct for leadership, saying he may get a promotion by the end of this month. A senior army insider said, “Harry has shown excellent leadership qualities and is particularly comfortable on field exercises. That’s where it counts – when you and your mates are under fire.”

Cruise denies setting date

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will wed next month in an exclusive hotel in Cancun, Mexico, the Sun reported.

A source told the London tabloid the couple “initially were planning on tying the knot around Christmas.” When Holmes discovered she was pregnant, arrangements had to be moved up. A spokesperson for Cruise denied a date had been set.

After E! dumped Star Jones from its red-carpet awards show programming, the cable channel offered the job to Joy Behar. The comedian-turned-

TV host turned down the offer out of respect for her colleague on “The View,” the New York Post’s Cindy Adams writes.

ABC News said Monday it will replace Ted Koppel on “Nightline” with the three-anchor team of Martin Bashir, Cynthia McFadden and Terry Moran. Koppel leaves ABC News on Nov. 22 after 25 years on the late-night program.

McFadden and Bashir will be based in New York, while Moran will stay in Washington. ABC promises a major revamp of “Nightline” when the new anchor team debuts Nov. 28.

New York City officials have ordered “Today Show” anchor Ann Curry to reduce the height of the penthouse she had built atop her Upper West Side home or face a public hearing.

Neighbors have clashed with Curry over the structure and other renovations since she bought the four-story brownstone in November 2003. The Landmarks Preservation Commission told Curry last week she has to shorten the 18-foot penthouse or appeal in a public hearing for an exception to city rules, an agency spokeswoman said.

Not all the wheels have fallen off of Kate Moss’ modeling career. Italian tire company Pirelli said it will keep Moss in its 2006 calendar, the London Evening-Standard reported.

After revelations of Moss’ drug use, several firms, including Burberry, Chanel and H&M, dumped the stick-thin 31-year-old. Among those appearing on the calendar are Jennifer Lopez, Giselle Bundchen and Natalia Vodianova.

Elizabeth Taylor, fighting heart disease, has asked that her ashes be spread in Wales, home of former husband Richard Burton, a Welsh website reported. Taylor has requested her ashes be spread at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, the Welsh capital. Taylor won’t be near Burton, though. The actor who married and divorced Taylor twice is buried in Switzerland.
