Denver’s Stewart Jackson is good at running security companies. And selling them.

In 1996, he sold his family’s Denver Burglar Alarm to Republic Industries, whose owner, H. Wayne Huizenga, amassed a fortune with movie-rental giant Blockbuster Video.

On Thursday, his follow-up venture, Jackson Burglar Alarm Inc., 1955 Sherman St., was purchased by HSM, formerly Honeywell Security Monitoring.

HSM, based in Jupiter, Fla., is the largest privately held commercial electronic security company in the U.S.

It has 50 offices nationwide, including one in Denver at 6000 E. Evans Ave.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

HSM declined to comment on layoffs or any consolidations plan, said Linda Knott, a HSM spokeswoman.

The move marks HSM’s fourth acquisition in the last six months, she said.

The sale includes Jackson’s 2,200 commercial and residential clients in Colorado.

Jackson’s parents in 1915 acquired what later became Denver Burglar Alarm.

He said in a statement that the deal will benefit local customers.

“With technology changing almost daily, this broad ability to provide the most advanced services will only enhance the quality of service our customers are used to receiving,” he said.

While Jackson headed Denver Burglar Alarm, the company helped design the alarm system for the Tower of London, and he sold a car alarm to singer Mel Torme, according to published reports.
