HOW’DYOUKNOW?
Last week: UH-1 Huey helicopter at the Western Slope Vietnam Park War Memorial, also known as the Field of Dreams, in Fruita.
Tony Shereck, Grand Junction: The memorial is close to my heart because my dad was killed in Vietnam on March 4, 1971. He flew with the 191st Assault “Boomerangs” out of Phu Loi in 1967 and 1968. Then he flew out of Phu Bai in 1970 and 1971. His first tour, he flew the same chopper in the photo. The second tour he flew OV-1 Mohawks with the 131st Aviation Regiment. He was a pilot and captain when he was killed in action. Vietnam vets have always had a special place in my heart.
