Role model?

The recent photo of our illustrious quarterback with the students at Merrill Middle School in the Denver Post (Oct. 19) was pathetic. Here is supposedly a hero to the younger generation showing up looking like a sloppy mountain man. Maybe Jake doesn’t make enough money and we could all chip in to buy him a shave and a haircut with a card that says “grow up.”

Nobody but USC

When we have opportunities to gain some insight into voters’ opinions in the USA Today coaches’ poll, it never fails to surprise. Gary Barnett commented (Oct. 16) that he was voting Texas No. 1 with his vote.

Following last year’s Orange Bowl thrashing of an Oklahoma team who in most people’s minds was superior to this year’s Texas team, I’m not sure if anyone associated with the Big 12 Conference should be allowed to vote any Big 12 team over USC as long as USC remains undefeated.

Homegrown memories

I grew up in St. Louis, obviously a Cards fan. I was watching the Astros series this year with my boys. I was reminiscing about my days watching the 1964, 1967, 1968, 1982, 1987, etc. great Cardinal teams and how fun it is to have a home team in the postseason. My boys were born in Colorado and deserve to have these memories. I am afraid they won’t have this opportunity as Rockies fans. Ask the Rockies organization, for my sons, to develop a team that will give these fans the memories I have been fortunate to have.
