Centennial – A man who shot another man at a gas station turned himself in to authorities after speaking to his dad about the shooting.

Yugene Eduardo Johnson, 18, of Centennial was being held without bail at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility for investigation of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a previous offender, Sheriff Grayson Robinson said.

Phillip Munn Pierce, 19, died of a gunshot wound to the chest following the 5:30 p.m. Friday shooting at the Conoco Gas Station, 19965 E. Smokey Hill Road.

A motive for the shooting was not known.

The suspect drove away after the shooting, but an off-duty sheriff’s deputy got his license plate number, Robinson said.

The suspect spoke with his father, who convinced him to return to the shooting scene and turn himself in, he said. The suspect and the victim knew each other.
