Forget the Labor Day SNIAGRAB swagfest. The real ski deals arrive the last weekend of October at the Ski & Snowboard Club of Vail’s annual ski swap.
The largest ski swap in the state, this 36-year-old event trumpets the arrival of winter more than any movie or party. The deals from the state’s skiingest valley run deep at the Vail swap. Local vendors clear their shops of last year’s products at make-it-go-away prices. And because the enormous supply of used skis, boards, boots and gear is offered by ski-obsessed locals, it’s high-quality stuff. Those locals tend to be hungry after a long offseason, so deals abound.
When the Dobson Ice Arena doors swing open at 5 p.m. on Friday, the shopping is frenzied. After 7 p.m., the entrance price drops from $15 to $5. But the real treasures have been hunted hard by that time. So pony up the $15 and get those powder boards you’ve coveted.
Proceeds benefit the Ski & Snowboard Club of Vail.
