A Spanish plastic-surgery clinic said it’s cooperating with police who are investigating the cause of the death of Nigerian first lady Stella Obasanjo.
The Molding Clinic in the Spanish town of Marbella performed an operation on Obasanjo, said a spokeswoman who declined to be identified. Obasanjo didn’t die at the clinic during surgery, the clinic said.
“At this time, we do not know the cause of her death and are awaiting the results of the autopsy,” the statement said. The clinic said it has provided the police with all the information they sought.
Results of the autopsy, performed in the same resort town on Spain’s southern coast, weren’t made public, the news agency Efe reported Monday, citing courthouse sources.
The 59-year-old wife of President Olusegun Obasanjo was recovering from the surgery she had last week until her health suddenly declined early Sunday, Efe said.
Before taking office in 1999, Obasanjo had several wives, Agence France-Presse reported. Stella became his official wife after he was in office, AFP said.
