Boulder – Colorado defensive ends Alex Ligon and Walter Boye-Doe pledged to play on Saturday at Kansas State despite being injured.
Ligon left CU’s win over Kansas on Saturday with a right knee sprain and did not return. The junior wore a leg splint Monday after having an MRI but said he’ll be ready to play against the Wildcats.
“I should be good,” Ligon said. “I’ve had this injury before on my other leg. It wasn’t too bad. It takes a few days to heal, but it should be all right.”
Boye-Doe sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder against Kansas. Asked whether he would play Saturday, he said: “I plan on it. It’s coming along.”
Meanwhile, offensive lineman Edwin Harrison wore a protective boot to help his sprained ankle heal.
Offensive line coach Dave Borbely said he wasn’t sure whether Harrison would play, but the injury is not expected to be serious.
Colorado isn’t putting out an official injury report this week because its opponent, Kansas State, does not do so.
Still a believer
Kansas State coach Bill Snyder hasn’t altered his preseason outlook about CU’s chances. He still sees the Buffs as the team that should win the Big 12 North.
“Most people thought they would be the odds-on favorite to win the North Division championship, and they’ve done nothing to disappoint the people that picked them that way,” Snyder said. “They are playing awfully well right now in all facets.”
Footnotes
Though Colorado is not ranked in either The Associated Press or USA Today coaches’ poll, the Buffs found themselves in the BCS standings at No. 24. It is CU’s first appearance in the BCS standings this season. … Colorado’s Nov. 5 game against Missouri is being considered for either an ABC regional telecast at 1:30 p.m. or a Fox Sports telecast at 5 p.m. A decision will be made this weekend.
