Colorado Springs – Lightning was indeed behind the deaths of 16 horses in eastern El Paso County last week, sheriff’s investigators said.
Computer technology at the Colorado Springs Fire Department recorded a dozen lightning strikes between 5:15 and 6:12 a.m. Oct. 19, all within the same general area, investigators said Thursday.
The horses were found a few days later grouped together in a pasture near Calhan, some with their eyeballs burst.
Sheriff’s spokesman Clif Northam said investigators still don’t know what killed six horses and a burro, also near Calhan, found Oct. 11.
