Appreciation for Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer is growing league-wide. Riding the hottest streak of his nine- year NFL career, he was named AFC offensive player of the week Tuesday.
Plummer completed 22-of-35 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns Sunday in Denver’s 49-21 victory over Philadelphia at Invesco Field at Mile High. With the Broncos’ 6-2 start, Plummer is starting to get national attention as a potential MVP candidate.
He has 12 touchdown passes and three interceptions this season, and he hasn’t thrown an interception in 171 passes.
It’s Plummer’s longest streak without being picked off, and the longest in team history since John Elway went 190 passes without being intercepted in 1997. The NFL record is 308 by Bernie Kosar of Cleveland.
This is Plummer’s third player of the week award since joining the Broncos in 2003. He has led the team to a 25-10 record. He also won the award once while with Arizona.
Injury update
Cornerback Champ Bailey didn’t practice so he could allow his left hamstring to heal. The injury forced him out of Sunday’s victory over Philadelphia. Bailey has said he will be able to play Nov. 13 at Oakland.
Safety Sam Brandon was back on the field during the light workout. Brandon’s presence means he likely will be ready to play against the Raiders. Brandon, a key player in the nickel package, missed the past two games with a shoulder injury.
Cornerback Karl Paymah has an eye infection that is expected to clear up this week and shouldn’t affect his status for the Oakland game.
