COLORADO

Season: Saturday-Jan. 16 east of Interstate 25, Saturday-Jan. 2 west of Interstate 25.

Bag limit: Three daily, nine possession.

License cost: $15.25 for a season resident license, $5.25 daily.

Quail: Saturday-Jan. 2 in the northeast. Saturday-Jan. 16 in the southeast. Saturday-Jan. 2 in the west. Bag limit eight, possession 24 of each species.

KANSAS

Season: Saturday-Jan. 31, statewide.

Bag limit: Four daily, 16 possession.

License cost: $72.15 for a nonresident license. A nonresident youth license, 15 and younger, costs $37.15.

Quail: Season concurrent with pheasants, except in extreme western Kansas, where it opens Nov. 19. Bag limit eight daily, 32 possession.

NEBRASKA

Season: Through Jan. 31, statewide.

Bag limit: Three daily, 12 possession.

License cost: $81 for a nonresident license. A nonresident youth license, 15 and younger, costs $25.

Quail: Season concurrent with pheasants. Bag limit six, possession 24.

WALK-IN OPTION

The Colorado Division of Wildlife again will provide access to approximately 150,000 acres of prime pheasant habitat through purchase of a $20 permit, required of hunters 16 and older, available at DOW offices and license agents. An atlas gives detailed directions and instructions.

FEELING HOSPITABLE

The following eastern Colorado communities offer pheasant hospitality arrangements whereby hunters gain access to a quantity of land for a fixed fee:

Akron Flying Pheasants: In its ninth season, this organization offers access to 43,000 acres for the entire season for a fee of $100, which includes one youth hunter 15 years or younger with each paying adult. Registration may be made to Akron Lions Club, Box 474, Akron 80720, phone 970-345-2915. Walk-up registration will be noon-9 p.m. Friday, continuing at 5 a.m. Saturday at Davis Bros. Sinclair, junction of highways 34 and 63. Breakfast and sack lunch provided opening day. After opening weekend, a phone arrangement is required.

Burlington Rooster Roundup: In its 24th year, this most venerable of the hospitality locations will provide approximately 55,000 acres over a Saturday-Dec. 11 time frame. The cost is $85 per person, $15 for youths 15 and younger, all of whom receive a breakfast and sack lunch on opening day. Headquarters on Saturday will be the Comfort Inn on Lincoln Avenue.
