Broncos backup receiver Todd Devoe made the road trip to Oakland on Saturday, two days after he told coach Mike Shanahan his father had been shot and killed.
According to Shanahan, Devoe’s father was killed in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He then referred all further questions on the matter to the receiver.
Law enforcement officials in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County, Fla., said there had been no reported homicides in their jurisdictions. Devoe addressed the media Friday after practice.
“Something happened in Fort Lauderdale, and me and my family would really appreciate if everybody would leave my family in Fort Lauderdale alone,” Devoe said.
“Let them be at peace and stop all the calls, please. We don’t need it. All the speculation about he’s this, he’s that – just leave it alone, please. Let my family be at peace.”
Devoe, 25, is coming off his first breakthrough game in the NFL, making five receptions, including a game-clinching, 44-yard touchdown catch, in a 49-21 win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 30 at Invesco Field at Mile High.
